Classes

Caroline is a caring, reassuring and approachable teacher.  She encourages each student to maximise their own potential and creates a warm, friendly and fun class environment.

Whatever your reasons for wanting to learn belly dance, your very first lesson can be a daunting prospect - don't worry, we've all been there and we know how you feel!  Belly dance will help you tone up, increase your co-ordination and flexibility, improve your posture, help you gain confidence and bring out the inner diva in you! Most important of all - you will have fun.

A TYPICAL CLASS WILL INCLUDE:

  • Warm up - Gentle moves from top to toe to mobilise all parts of the body.  This is followed by a pulse raiser which is usually a fun follow on dance to get you moving!
  • Technique/Isolations - We will learn technique and isolations each week and will also revise moves already learned.  Each student is observed individually and offered in-depth breakdown and correction if necessary along with lots of encouragement.
  • Every student will learn at their own pace and will probably find some moves easier to carry out than others - don't worry, this is completely normal!
  • Improvisation - It is important not to just learn technique but also how to use it both in improvisation and choreography.  We will incorporate improvisational skills on a regular basis as it is very important to be able to improvise in belly dance - it's not that scary - honest!!!
  • Choreography - This is a sequence of moves which we will learn over the course of approximately 5 weeks.  Each class works at a different level so it may take longer than 5 weeks depending on the ability of the students and the complexity of the choreography.  We will continue working on the choreography until everyone is happy with it.  You will receive a written copy of the choreography along with advice as to where to buy the music - you can then astound your friends by performing it for them!!  We will continue to practise previous choreographies on a regular basis so that when we perform we have a varied reportoire.
  • Cool down - Gentle movements and stretches so that we don't ache the next day.

"We LOVED your workshop both the younger and the older students really enjoyed themselves including me!!! You were a lovely teacher and the children enjoyed performing your work (including me!!).  The performance went very well thank you and the adults were very keen to know who you were and where you teach' .... Sarah Baker, Funk It Up Dance School.

PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES

My students perform regularly at a wide variety of  events.  All students are given the opportunity to perform the choreographies they learn if they would like to.

There is no pressure to perform, and usually after a first performance there is no stopping them.  I find that this is a fantastic way for students to gain confidence and to show the public that belly dance is for everyone.
